Management

James P. Scullion
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer

James is responsible for driving the vision and strategy and overseeing the operations of Tumbleweed. Before being appointed as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tumbleweed in January 2006, Mr. Scullion served as President and Chief Executive Officer of ComnetiX, Inc. from April 2004 to January 2006. Prior to Comnetix, Mr. Scullion held leadership positions at Identix, Inc., where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from April 1999 to June 2002, Executive Vice President from 1996 to April 1999, and Chief Financial Officer from 1990 to April 2001. Mr. Scullion was a member of the Board of Directors of Identix, Inc. from 1998 to June 2002. Mr. Scullion has served on the Board of Directors of Tumbleweed since April 2003 and was Chairman of Tumbleweed's Audit Committee from April 2003 to January 2006.

Dr. Taher Elgamal
Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Elgamal is a leading expert in computer, network and information security. Also, recognized in the industry as the "inventor of SSL," Dr. Elgamal led the SSL efforts at Netscape and throughout the industry.  He also wrote the SSL patent and promoted SSL as the Internet Security standard within standard committees and the industry. Dr. Elgamal invented several industry and government standards in data security and digital signatures area, including the DSS government standard for digital signatures. Several thousand publications have been written in the space referred to as "the ElGamal Cryptography." He developed the basic work that has been adopted by about ten companies for commercial products and for several IEEE and ISO standards.  This work has also been adapted for the DSS government standard for digital signatures and is the basis for the Elliptic Curve encryption methods recently introduced in the industry. Dr. Elgamal has public company board experience with RSA Security, hi/fn, Phoenix Technology and Tumbleweed. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Cairo University.

Nicholas Hulse
Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations

Nick Hulse has global responsibility for overseeing sales, channel development and customer support for Tumbleweed. Hulse brings over 20 years of IT leadership experience to Tumbleweed. Previously, Hulse was senior vice president of sales, marketing and channel development at FrontBridge Technologies, where he drove 141 percent revenue growth in 2005 prior to Microsoft's acquisition of FrontBridge in August, 2005. At Frontbridge he built the industry's largest distribution partner network and grew indirect sales to more than 86 percent of revenues. Prior to FrontBridge, Hulse was general manager/senior vice president of Cybertek Holdings/Secos, Inc. where he led the company's U.S. operations. He also served as vice president of marketing, products & channel sales at Epoch Internet where he was the principal architect of the channel sales program.

Timothy G. Conley
Senior Vice President, Finance, and Chief Financial Officer

Tim is responsible for finance and administration. From January 2000 through June 2003, Tim served as vice president, finance, and chief financial officer for Valicert, Inc. From September 1998 to January 2000, Tim was vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Longboard, Inc., a provider of telecommunications systems. From June 1997 to August 1998, Tim served as vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Logicvision, a provider of intellectual property for use in the design and testing of semiconductor devices. Previously, from November 1989 to May 1997, Tim was vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Verilink Corporation, a manufacturer of network access equipment. Tim holds a B.S. degree in business administration from Wisconsin State University and is a certified public accountant.

Bernard J. "Barney" Cassidy
Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Barney leads our legal, corporate development, human resources and training teams, and serves as Secretary to the corporation. Before joining Tumbleweed he practiced law at Skadden Arps in San Francisco and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California. Barney graduated from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, and completed the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Jorge Rodriguez
Senior Vice President of Product Development

Jorge oversees day-to-day engineering operations while playing a hands-on role in delivering on Tumbleweed’s product vision and roadmap. With more than 18 years of experience, Jorge has a track record of effectively managing multi-location engineering organizations and delivering enterprise products to market. Prior to Tumbleweed, Jorge served as vice president of engineering in several divisions at Borland Software Corporation – most recently overseeing the LifeCycle Quality Management Products Group & Engineering Services. During his tenure at Borland, he was responsible for spearheading the implementation of Agile Development Methodologies that created a culture of “production engineering.” Before Borland, he served in a number of strategic roles including vice president of research and development at Highlander Engineering (acquired by Borland Software), and senior engineering roles at both Nortel Networks and Siemens Information and Communication Networks. He has a BS in computer science from University of South Florida, College of Engineering.

Joseph Fisher
Senior Vice President of Product Management

Joe is responsible for all of Tumbleweed's product strategy. He has been with Tumbleweed since 1999, serving in a variety of marketing and product management roles. Prior to Tumbleweed, Joe spent 4 years and Schlumberger/CellNet where he managed an extensive line of state-of-the-art wireless network communication devices. Joe has held senior product positions at Furukawa Electric and IBM. Joe holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an M.B.A. in finance and marketing from Santa Clara University.

Mr. Scullion has served on the Board of Directors of Tumbleweed since April 2003 and was Chairman of Tumbleweed's Audit Committee from April 2003 to January 2006.

Taher Elgamal
Taher has been a Director of Tumbleweed since June 2003. He has served as one of Valicert’s directors since October 1997. Taher has served as chief executive officer for Securify, an internet security company since June 1998. Taher served as chief scientist for Netscape Communications, an internet software company, from April 1995 to June 1998. Taher holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Cair University and an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. degree in electric engineering from Stanford University.

Christopher H. Greendale
Christopher has been a Director of Tumbleweed since August 2001. Since May of 2003, Christopher has been a General Partner of Kodiak Venture Partners. Christopher was also engaged in independent venture capital investing between September 2000 and March 2002. From January 1998 until September 2000, he was a Managing Director with Internet Capital Group (ICG), an Internet holding company actively engaged in more than 70 business-to-business e-commerce partner companies. Mr Greendale also serves as a board member for GlassHouse Technologies, HiWired Inc., Vettro, and uLocate Communications. Christopher served as Executive Vice President, Marketing for Cambridge Technology Partners Massachusetts Inc., a provider of software development services. He was a co-founder of Cambridge Technology Partners, which grew to over $600 million in annual revenues before he left the company in 1997. From November 1990 until March 1991, Christopher was an independent management consultant. From June 1990 until November 1990, Christopher served as Vice President, Marketing for Oracle Corporation, a software development company. From April 1989 until June 1990, Christopher served as Vice President, Worldwide Marketing for Ingres Corporation, a software development company. From February 1986 until April 1989, Christopher served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Network Technologies, a software development company.

James A. Heisch
Mr. Heisch has more than 40 years of senior level business experience including 17 years with Arthur Young & Company where he was an audit partner, and later as the Chief Financial Officer for leading technology companies including Atari, Businessland and Supermac Technology. Additionally, Mr. Heisch served five years with medical device company Vitamed, Inc., initially as CFO managing all financial and administrative functions in the United States and United Kingdom, and then as President and CEO responsible for worldwide operations. He later joined Worldtalk Corporation as CFO and later was promoted to President. Tumbleweed acquired Worldtalk in 2000, and subsequently Mr. Heisch also served as Tumbleweed's interim Chief Financial Officer during 2001.

Kenneth R. Klein
Kenneth has been a Director of Tumbleweed since February 2000. Kenneth has been President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wind River Systems, Inc. since January 2004. Prior to that Kenneth served as the Chief Operating Officer of Mercury Interactive since January of 2000 and had been on the Mercury Interactive board of directors since July 2000. Prior to that, he served as Mercury Interactive's President, North American Operations from July 1998 to January 2000. From April 1995 to July 1998 Kenneth served as Vice President of North American Sales. From May 1992 to March 1995, he served as Western Area Sales Director. From March 1990 to May 1992, Kenneth served as Regional Sales Manager for Interactive Development Environments, a CASE tool company. Prior to that Kenneth served in a variety of engineering and sales management roles in the software industry. Kenneth holds degrees in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California.

Deborah D. Rieman
Deborah has been a Director of Tumbleweed since March 2001. Deborah currently manages a private investment fund and consults technology start-up companies. Until December 1999, Deborah served as President and Chief Executive Officer of CheckPoint Software Technologies, Inc., an internet security software company. Prior to joining CheckPoint, Deborah held various executive and marketing positions with Adobe Systems, Inc., Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Xerox Corporation. She also serves as a director of Altera Corp., Alchemedia Corporation, Keynote Systems, Inc. and Corning, Inc. Deborah holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Sarah Lawrence College and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Columbia University.

Jeffrey C. Smith
Jeff served as Tumbleweed’s president and CEO through June, 2005. Before founding Tumbleweed in June 1993, Jeff held various senior positions in research and development with the following firms: Frame Technology from January 1991 to June 1993; Aeon Corp. from January 1990 to January 1991; Hewlett-Packard from June 1988 to June 1989; and IBM Scientific Research Center in Palo Alto from June 1987 to June 1988. Jeff served as a lecturer in Software Engineering at Stanford University in 1988 and 1989. Jeff holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Standish H. O'Grady
Standish H. O'Grady has been a Director of Tumbleweed since August 1997. Mr. O'Grady is a founder and Managing Director of Granite Ventures LLC, an early stage technology venture capital firm. He previously served in various positions with Hambrecht & Quist Group's venture capital practice since 1986. Mr. O'Grady is currently a director of Wind River Systems, Inc. Five Across, Inc., and StepUp Commerce, Inc., Mr. O'Grady sits on the compensation and nominating committees at WindRiver Systems, Inc. Mr. O'Grady holds a B.S.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.
